Untethered
Project Type: 2.5D Metroidvania
Date: February 2025 - May 2025
Role: Project Manager
In the second semester of my second year we had a Group Studio Project. I created an initial game idea and conducted a 5 minute presentation to my entire cohort on, this was to gage interest in the game and create a team of 10 to develop this game into a Vertical Slice Demo.
I created a project plan for the next few months, which included task management for everyone. I helped manage the overall scope of the game as well as manage powerpoint creation each week for presentations to update clients (lecturers). As part of the game, a Game Design Document had to be created which I had a large role in editing to ensure all other sections fit the required word count and contained the correct information
However I was not just working on the maintenace and management of the game. I worked with the level designers to create maps. Gave feedback to asset creation to keep overall theme on track. As I also have a love for level designing myself, I designed, blocked out, tile-mapped and tested the Lust and Gluttony level sections. I created a dialogue system to assist player learning in the scenes.
What did I learn?
Developed my ability to manage team expectations and game scope
Improved communication and teamworking skills
Improved presentation skills and public speaking
Learned more about level size, placement of objects and feel of levels during play
Developed a better understanding on overall game feel and keeping a coherent game story
