Game Engine
Project Type: Game Engine Creation
Date: October 2025 - January 2026
Role: Lead Programmer
As a third year module we were taught how to create game engines and different ways they are laid out. These ways included the Entity-Component System and the Binary Spatial Partition. We focused on the first system and were taught how each aspect of ECS work together, gaining a better understanding of Object Orientation.
For the project itself I had to make my own Game Engine as well as a game to play in this engine. I decided to make a flappy bird style game. The rat that you played as could move up/down with pipes spawning in at random heights to give a challenge. All objects were 3D and rendered in the engine along with their textures.
What did I learn?
How to create my own Game Engine
Grasped a better understanding of the Entity-Component System and how Object-Oriented Programming fits in
Better understanding of how to generate models in games via code
